About Us

Dreaming of Furever Animal Rescue is a new 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue in the Corpus Christi area, with a mission to decrease the number of stray cats and dogs, promote transport-based adoptions, and change the culture of pet ownership in the area through education and creative events. We strive to create relationships with other animal rescues and caring individuals to collectively work towards a future where every cat and dog is wanted.

Saving animals until they all have homes!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you transport pets out of state?

According to Shelter Animals Count, an estimated 607,000 cats and dogs were euthanized in shelters in 2024. Of the pets euthanized, almost 100,000 were euthanized in Texas shelters. By transporting our adoptable pets to areas with fewer unwanted pets, they have a better chance of quickly finding loving homes—while also freeing up space in Texas shelters and giving more local animals a chance at life.

Why are you foster-based?

Keeping adoptable pets in foster homes helps them learn important manners and boundaries, making them more adoptable. In addition, it allows us to gather valuable insights into their behavior and personality, helping potential adopters make more informed decisions.

Help! I found a pet. What should I do?

First, read our blog “Found Pet Help” about finding a pet to try to identify if the pet is owned. If you are able to foster the pet or are willing to help find a foster, please reach out! If it is an emergency, call Corpus Christi Animal Care Services at 311. If the pet is badly injured and CCACS does not respond, you can surrender the pet to VCA Oso Creek Animal Hospital and Emergency Center. They are open 24/7 and their phone number is (361) 994-1145.

I would like to rehome my pet but animal rescues are not accepting! How can I rehome?

Animal rescues prioritize stray and shelter pets because they are the most at risk. Traffic, injuries from other pets, infection/disease, starvation, and cruelty from people all pose threats to roaming cats and dogs. Shelter cats and dogs risk euthanasia, infection/disease, and behavioral and emotional risks that can impact the pets’ adoptability. While we do allow owner surrenders, it is on a limited, case by case basis to allow us to focus more on stray and shelter pets. By accepting your pet into your home, you made a commitment to them. We understand that lives change and there may be a good reason you can no longer keep your pet, but please take the time to properly rehome your pet.
